This was a 5-day trip from Seattle to Big Sur, CA and back.

Initial gas-up
Rick and I started off at about 3PM with high hopes for earning a SaddleSore1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours) from the IBA (Iron Butt Association). We carefully documented our departure time, collecting our first gas receipt. |

Rick & his Honda ST1100
Our aspirations of doing a SS1000 were thwarted by our late start. We road until about AM, but finally were just too tired. We ended up only riding about 750 miles in the first 24 hours. |

Callahan "city center"
Taking side roads off the main highway, we somehow ended up in Callahan. We appeared to be the big event of the day. |
Callahan Ranch Hotel
Apparently once a popular place, not much going on anymore. |
Nobody home
Since it didn't look like we'd be getting a room at the Callahan Ranch Hotel, we just kept on riding South. |

Sheraton near SF
This is more like it. Generally, nice hotels will let you park nice bikes (like ours) right out front under cover. |

High-priced gas!
This was the summer of sky-high gas prices. Fortunately, we got great gas mileage! |
Alice's Restaurant
This famous biker hangout 1/2 hour west of S.F. is a mandatory stop before riding the great Skyline Drive. |
Skyline Drive
This is a beautiful ride along the spine of the hills West of S.F., with great views on both sides (that is S.F. off in the distance). |

Not exactly the Sheraton
...but you take what you can get along the way. |

Don't park near the edge!
This old section of Highway 1 was totally washed out. Naturally, we both parked a safe distance from the edge. |

REALLY washed out!
The drop-off where the old highway washed out is nearly straight down. |
